About the Client and the Project

The Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) actively participate in the European initiative EULYNX, which aims to standardize the interfaces of signaling systems.

In this context, SBB commissioned CSA to develop and implement a Proof-of-Concept platform (PoC) that integrates real field elements such as switches, IO, and light signal modules. The platform is deployed at the Löwenberg test facility near Murten and enables practical verification of EULYNX-compliant systems under realistic conditions.

 

Our Services

In the project, CSA took on project management and, in collaboration with SBB, developed the system architecture for the PoC overall system.

Furthermore, CSA was responsible for the conceptualization, development, production, assembly, and testing of the field elements, including their firmware. The specified Safety Controller from Aviotech was integrated by CSA into a customer-specific computing module, and the necessary OC functions according to EULYNX were implemented in software.

Finally, CSA integrated the various system components into an overall system and, together with SBB, conducted tests at the Löwenberg test facility.

 

Created Value

Thanks to CSA's expertise in the field of embedded software and hardware development, the PoC platform for SBB was developed in an efficient and effective setup.

SBB now has access to real Object Controllers (OC) including field elements, which enable the testing of various topics in a real environment. This allows for a better understanding of the system, early detection of problems and challenges, and the validation of requirements.

Through CSA's professional and cooperative approach, SBB was able to focus entirely on their core business and concentrate on the necessary conceptual and particularly operational aspects for the PoC, which they now wish to examine with the PoC.

EULYNX in Use - CSA Field Elements as Part of the DB Demonstrator
